«OKB MIKRON» has received a new patent

Andrey Miroshnikov, Chief engineer of the conceptual design group project, and Dmitry Salov, General Director of «OKB MIKRON» has received a new patent, have received a patent for the invention of a rotary machine with a CNC system for tools, spindles or workpieces — one of the important parts of our Orbita project. According to the patent holders, this is a fundamentally new kinematic scheme for CNC machining machines, in which all movements of the workpiece and tool are performed due to angular movements on annular guides.

In a daily effort to increase the life of equipment and reduce wear on mechanical components of machine tools, specialists have come to an ingenious solution for a long time — the idea that any rectilinear machine movements can be obtained through angular movements of simultaneously rotating turntables appeared in 2008. Step by step, thinking over all the details of the future project, in 2023 «OKB MIKRON» developed the concept of orbital machine tool manufacturing and applied for a patent. The first stage of bringing the project to life was the visual presentation of the idea. Therefore, the design department developed and manufactured a demonstrator of the Orbita machine using additive technologies on a scale of 1:3. Most of the design department took part in the design, which carried out calculations of machine components for rigidity and strength, modeling kinematic processes in complex programs.

The new concept can be used in various types of metal-cutting equipment, including turning and toothworking. It has a number of advantages over the classical scheme with linear guides: it solves the problem of uneven wear of the guides, improves their protection from abrasive ingress during operation, and increases their service life.
